Issue #12

Good morning friends!

Hope you all slept well!

Shall we…

Quote of the day:

Just stay true to your own moral instincts. Display the virtues of positivity, honesty, goodwill, excellence, humility, forgiveness, and respect to all, with a clear understanding that very few will ever acknowledge your integrity and stainless character.

Robin Sharma

From Robin Sharma’s book The Everyday Hero Manifesto.

A Musing, Aphorism, and Heuristic (or something like that)…

i) It’s all about perspective.

We’re all living different realities, reflections of the true world. The reality you live in is determined by the perspectives you carry.

If you feel as though the world is against you, zoom out. Realize what you are currently experiencing is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

If you struggle to make sense of the world, zoom in. Instead of trying to experience everything, ever, all at once. Try to experience one good thing the best you can, as fully as you can.

ii) Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts - Sir Winston Churchill

“The only thing that doesn’t change is change itself.”

In moments of success, enjoy them, celebrate them, be grateful for them, then continue.

In moments of failure, learn from them, find perspective, be grateful for them, then continue.

Bonus idea - Gain perspective in moments of success and in moments of failure, and realize they are just different places along the path of life. The only failure would be to not walk the path at all.

iii) Stop whatever you’re doing for a moment and ask yourself: Am I afraid of death because I won’t be able to do this anymore? - Marcus Aurelius

Any of you familiar with the stoic philosophy will know the idea of Memento Mori.

If you’re unfamiliar all it means is, “remember you will die,” doing so will give you clarity on what’s important to you.

Remember you will die…that you are dying as you read this…don’t be so scared of dying that you forget to live.

Cocktail Time: 3 Interesting facts; 1 Communication tip; And the occasional joke

3 Interesting Facts:

i) The majority of the fat you burn is excreted through your breath.

ii) The majority of millionaires are self made (you got this).

iii) 1 of 5000 North America Lobsters is born bright blue.

Communication tip:

Stop listening to respond, listen to understand.

People enjoy genuine interest.

Think back to a good conversation you had, that time you talked to someone and they were asking you question because they Actually wanted to know.

It felt good.

Return the favor, it's a win-win situation.

They feel better knowing you care about what they are saying, and you get to learn about something you are interested in.

One Actionable Tip to Improve your Life Today:

Who is someone you care about that you haven’t spoken to in a while?

It can be a parent, sibling, old friend, or even an old acquaintance you weren’t necessarily the closest with.

Call them and chat for a bit.

Reconnect, ask them about their day, about their life, what they’ve been up to…

If they don’t pick up or you don’t have their number, text or DM them, don’t use it as an excuse to not do it.

A Few Resources:

i) I am currently reading The Dalai Llama: An Extraordinary Life, and I’m quite enjoying it.

ii) If you’re into all aspects of health, from the basic principles to the cutting edge + spirituality and more check out Ben Greenfield.

iii) Check out Medium to find interesting ideas and perspectives. It like a social network of blogs/bloggers.
